Figures released in an article from Apple Watch have reported that although only 14% of all computers sold through retail channels during the first quarter of '08 were Macs, for computers bearing a price tag over US$1000 Apple account for 70% of all sales!
It has been my experience that the kinds of people that buy these kind of high-end computers are computer enthusiasts, musicians, video enthusiasts, and of course gamers. If game companies are watching these figures - and you can be pretty sure that they are - they have got to realize that with that many high-end Macs out there then there must be a market for high-end Mac games.
This other article from the same site is filled with similar news about Apple's second quarter for '08. With sites like Engadget with their "2007 Engadget Awards" listing Vista as the "Worst Gadget of the Year" and handing out "Best Gadget of the Year" to - yes, of course - Apple's iPhone. Apple scored about a dozen awards all up. Microsoft scored "Game Console of the Year" with the Xbox360 (considering what Engadget awarded Vista I can't see Microsoft advertising the fact). Despite everyone being wrapped up in the iPhone it was a Sony Ericsson that took away "Cellphone of the Year"

Top 100 Mac Apps
As a new-to-mac user I am always searching for cool software that I can try out on my new computer. I found this list of 100 programs at MacTipsAndTricks.com and while I use a few of them already, there are a many there that I have never heard of and a couple that sound useful enough that I'm going to give them a try.

Back to paving
The long weekend was industrious at our place. We got stuck into paving again and now our paved area encompasses the house. Enormous thanks to Adrian for screeding like a professional concreter and to Bill for all his help. Without you guys it still wouldn't be done. Thanks heaps!

May Day Explosions
Okay, so I had a slack blogging month. That's because there has been nothing to blog about. But today there was a little bit of excitement. Some guys that are working on the Kirkwood Road Project came around and asked me if they could put a sensor near my house to detect the effect of the explosives they are using to blast away rock on the road construction. So that was pretty cool. Nothing like some big explosions to start the day.
They used a little box full of sensors which stood on four little spikes that stuck into the ground and a little microphone on a stand next to it. I was going to take a photo of it but our little digital camera died a couple of weeks ago. Then they left to set up a second sensor on the other side of the blast area because they needed two sensors within 500m of the blast site to take their measurements. The guy told me that it measures sound, vibration, temperature, time of day and several other things and was sensitive enough to detect people walking anywhere near it. One of them came back to keep an eye on the sensor while the blasting took place. I could hear the chatter on his two-way radio - warning sirens, people checking in and giving all clear and then the ten second countdown. About five or six cracks went off in quick succession and it was over. From my place I couldn't see anything, but you could certainly hear it. I thought the sound would be a deeper booming sound but it was more like gunshots.
Pretty cool though. Some excitement for the day!
